The F Word- Review

SO, WHEN I DRAW, I like to watch something on the internet. My preferred site, right now, is Hulu. I usually like to have a secondary monitor (one to work on, and one to watch) but I don’t have one at the moment. It’s kind of cramped with my work and the show on the same screen, but it works out, somehow. For the last few weeks, I’ve been watching Gordon Ramsey’s “F Word”. F stands for Food, of course. I love this show! Actually, I really enjoy all of Gordon Ramsey’s shows. Got to love Kitchen Nightmares, especially it’s original BBC run.

F WORD is one of Gordon’s restaurants, and the show follows a small brigade of chefs, trying to serve 50-60 guests at a time. It’s kind of a competition, where a new group shows up every week for a chance at a top spot in the F Word kitchen. But the competition aspect is the only part of the show.

WHAT I ENJOY the most about F Word is that you get to see another side to Gordon Ramsay, instead of him yelling and cussing at people all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I like watching that too, but here you get to see him with his family and his wife as they raise animals, which they later butcher and use in the season finale. It’s great to see him as the father, and how he tries to show his children where their food comes from, attempting to instill a greater understanding than most people have when it comes to what we eat. It’s also heartbreaking when it finally comes to the slaughter, which they show in full, graphic detail.

THERE ARE ALSO small field reports done by Giles Coren and Janet Street-Porter, which are always interesting. Ramsey’s even takes his turn, by going out and showing the audience where certain food comes from, and how they’re cooked in different areas. He also had a “Campaign to Get Women Back in the Kitchen” that was hit with a firestorm of controversy, for obvious reasons.

I FOR ONE don’t understand, because I don’t think he meant for it to be sexist or misogynistic. He noticed that there a lot of women that don’t know how to cook, at all, and wanted to get them to understand and be confident in creating a meal for their family. He even went to several houses, and personally showed them how to cook a meal of their choice! What’s to complain about? Shoot, come to my house, and let a Michelin Star chef show me how to cook!

I COOK ALL THE TIME, and so does my wife. We take turns making breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don’t think it matters who cooks, and I think it’s stupid to delegate the role to a certain gender. The same goes for both my parents. They both work 40 hours a week and take turns cooking. There’s no need to say he or she needs to be the one in the kitchen.

I’M CURRENTLY ON SEASON 3. I believe there are 5 seasons? The original show ran from 2005-2010. You can watch every episode on Hulu! If you enjoy cooking, Gordon Ramsey, and getting a glimpse of where a lot of the food we consume comes from, F Word is a great show to look into!
