SO, THIS IS TAKING a lot longer than I had originally anticipated. Freaking Flash puppets! As I’ve stated before, this is a one man operation, and I’m slowly having to teach myself things about Flash that I really never understood. Good news? I’m starting to get it!
THE HEADER IMAGE for this post is a screen grab of Rel Rel’s puppet. The reason why it’s taking so long is because I’m creating a puppet, with symbols embedded within each other. Up until last week, I’ve only been using movie clip symbols, thinking that was the way to go! I finally found a tutorial that taught me all about graphic symbols, and how you could call in a head or body position from inside the symbol by simply inputting a number! Oh, Flash.
BUT I HAVE NOT been able to get the symbols to work correctly. Somethings animate, others don’t animate at all, while some just up and animate when ever they feel like! It’s very frustrating. However, I think I finally know how to tame the animation, and get all the inception-like layers to blend into one, cohesive animation. Been stuck on this for longer than I care to admit, but I think I’ve finally solved the issue!
ASIDE FROM FLASH FRUSTRATION, I have been trying to bring Niko’s designs to life, by mimicking his style in Flash. This was a lot easier than figuring out the symbols, and her turn around is coming along great! I’ve done a few test animations of head turns and foot stomps, and I’m excited to say that I can’t wait to get the whole puppet ready and moving!
SADLY, ONLY REL REL has a puppet, which is still being constructed. I plan to create Lily next, and then move onto Father, and finally Mother. Hopefully, at least I’m praying so, once I get Rel Rel’s puppets nailed down (and I finally understand the whole creation process and interface) that the rest of the puppets will fall in line, a little easier. That’s the plan, anyways.
